Visit from members of The Defence Forces

On September 28th, two members of the Irish Army, Private Quinn and Sgt Reddan called to our school to present Mrs. Quinn with an Irish Tricolour Flag and a copy of the 1916 Proclamation.

Hogwarts comes to Inagh!

Melanie came to our class to talk to us about the food chain. She played games with us which helped us to learn about the food chain. She also told us some old stories about the old customs and traditions at Halloween.She dressed as a witch and pretended that she was our teacher for the day!  We really enjoyed it.

Exploring with Magnets

As part our science curriculum, we spent some time learning about magnets!

Magnets are great fun!

Some facts that we learned about them include:

• Magnets have a north pole and a south pole.
• Magnets can attract (pull) or repel (push)
• Magnets come in different shapes and sizes 
• Some magnets like horse-shoe magnets are very strong and can attract large metallic objects.

A new beginning, a new class, a new teacher!

Hello All and Welcome!

Welcome back to a new year,  a new classroom and a new teacher!  I'm Mrs. McMahon, previously known as Miss Kennedy and I'll be teaching 2nd and half of 3rd class for this year. I'm really looking forward to getting to know everybody!

Suaimhneas Junior

We have a new boy in our class. His name is Eolann. Eolann is great fun. HE loves Jolly Phonics and drawing patterens in his hand writing copy.

Drumming

On Wednes day, 19th of September Suaimhneas junior and Suaimhneas Senior joined together for a really enjoyable class with a lady called Anet Moone. Anet brought along all of her drums and showed us how to beat on ryythms. It was loud but everyone liked it.

Swimming lessons

We have been swimming in Ennis pool for the last five weeks. All the lifegaurds are really happy with our progress. Darragh C is in the deep-end now. Well  done Darragh.

Halloween

Next week we will be decorating our class for Halloween so come and see our photos then!!

A Nature Trail




One day, we the children from Suaimhneas Junior took a walk  to look at  the wonderful world of nature that is around our school.


We saw amazing mini-beasts in the poly-tunnel, frogs on logs, newts in the pond but sadly, all the wood louse had left the log pile hotel!


We really enjoyed our trail. Melanie the gardener showed us what to look for when we go out walking.

   


Can you see the butterfly in the poly-tunnel? Can you see the newt in the pond? Can you see the water beetle in the net?

Little Chefs in Suaimhneas

Paddy, Ben, Darragh C, Tom and Darragh K have been very busy lately making some delicious desserts.  For our first cookery lesson, we made a batch of delicious fairy cakes topped with chocolate.  Next, we made a scrumptious chocolate mousse. This is the recipe that we followed.  Why don't you try it out!

 

Ingredients:

• 200g good quality dark chocolate
• 50g butter
• 4 eggs, separated
• 1 cup (250mL) cream
• 2 tablespoons caster sugar

 

Method:

Melt chocolate and butter in a heat-proof bowl over a simmering saucepan of water.
Or in the microwave. Stir until all melted and smooth. Set aside.
Whip the cream until soft peaks form.
In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites until soft peaks form, then sprinkle on caster sugar and whisk until mixture is thick and sugar has dissolved.
Stir the egg yolks into the chocolate mixture, then fold through the cream and then the whipped egg whites.
Spoon into one large glass bowl, or individual small bowls, cups or glasses!
Refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
To serve, find a good hiding spot and savour every mouthful.
Add a few raspberries for extra delicious-ness.
